'Rostrato' Pendant Light designed by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso, Italy 1940s. The pendant features an inverted teardrop form composed of clear hand-blown Murano glass. The surface is richly articulated with individually applied glass protrusions (“rostri”), which refract and amplify the light to produce a jewel-like brilliance. The pendant is suspended from a gilded brass chain and is surmounted by a matching glass ceiling cap, also executed in the Rostrato technique, providing a harmonious and refined finish. This piece exemplifies Barovier’s fusion of Venetian craftsmanship and modernist innovation. Each Rostrato work was uniquely executed by hand, making this pendant both a functional light and a sculptural glass object.
